PHYTOREMEDIATION PROJECT

Phytoremediation is a bioremediation process that uses various types of plants to remove, transfer, stabilize, and/or destroy contaminants in the soil and groundwater.

The team at North Design in partnership with the University of Toronto have created a multi-stage plan to re-naturalize the banks of the Etobicoke Creek. An ongoing process that will expand over years restoring the surrounding area with benefits to the environment and eco-system.

AyA Kitchens planted 400 trees with Pete North and The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design team and the North Design office. The first stage of many to re-naturalize and fulfill the AyA Kitchens and Baths phytoremediation project on the banks of the Etobicoke Creek. The ongoing project in partnership with the University of Toronto is to plant native trees and plants to the area that will help filter and remove any toxins and contaminents in the surrounding soil and water channels naturally.
